The wants and needs of customers, along with the mandates of regulating agencies, result in engine designs and systems that are ever more complex and sophisticated. The government says the engines have to run cleaner, but customers expect the same power and performance. Now more than ever we need qualified technicians to meet these new demands and service the engines in the field.

Kohler offers several different opportunities to increase your knowledge and test your competency on providing service support to your customers. Our Level 1 and 2 factory schools are the best way to gain in-depth knowledge on KOHLER engines. At these schools you will learn about new engines, factory parts, servicing techniques, new service procedures, and time saving tips.

Kohler offers technician certification on-line as well as a written test. The test consists of 180 questions and is broken into 6 areas:
  • Theory
  • Electrical
  • Fuel
  • Engine Measurements/Application
  • Engine Analysis/Warranty
  • Service/Tool Usage.


Technicians are required to pass all 6 sections to become certified. If you fail a section you have the opportunity to retake that section.

Certification is valid for three years. Technicians must re-certify at the time of expiration.

To take the online test, use the assessment id and password provided by your central distributor. If you are not a dealer and are interested in taking the test, please contact the distributor nearest you.
